Power Transmission, Actuators & Mechanics | Positioning Slides/Linear Units
Positioning slides or linear stages are comprised of a platform and base that are joined together by a guide or linear bearing that restricts the platform to a single axis of translational movement. The platform position is generally controlled by some form of linear actuator, usually a lead screw passed through a lead nut in the platform. While manual control relies upon a control knob and lead screw, stepper motors can be used to provide control in fixed increments, and a DC motor with an encoder can be used alongside a motor controller.
