Linear motors are electric motors with an unrolled stator and rotor that produce linear force along their length. Unlike a cylindrical rotary motor, a linear motor features a flat active section with two ends. In flattening their forces, these motors are able to work at faster speeds and with greater accuracy than rotary ones.
Linear motors are based on the same magnetic theories as rotary motors, but the rotating shaft is replaced with a forcer that produces work as a linear force or movement. They have become prominent in inspection equipment, vehicle launching systems, and semiconductor and electronics applications from component insertion to laser cutting.
