The Basics of Precision Brush and Brushless AC and DC Motors

About the Course

Which electric motor should be used for machine tools? Medical pumps? Diagnostic equipment? Robots? Missile and aircraft flight controls? Air conditioners? Electric power tools? Hybrid automobiles? Electric bikes and scooters? This course will review the input and output performance characteristics of 11 different types of electric motors. Also included are applications as well as electronic power and control electronics. Emphasis is on how each motor type and its associated electronics work, and new motor developments, which are challenging the current leaders. Each motor type is matched to an offensive position on a football team. Learn which motor type is best represented by the center, a lineman, or the quarterback.

Daniel JonesAbout the Instructor

Daniel Jones received a BSEE degree from Hofstra University in 1965 and an MS in mathematics at Adelphi in 1969. He has over 49 years experience in the design of all types of electric motors and generators from 10w to 500 Kw and has held engineering design, management, and marketing management positions at a number of companies. Recognized as an international authority on electric motors and motion control, Dan has written 250+ technical articles/papers and held seminars in 10 countries. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of SMMA and the Motion Control & Motor Association (MCMA). Dan is a life member of IEEE, and a member of ASME.
