Overhead gantry systems have the ability to cover large work areas on a relatively small footprint. Driven by fast and highly accurate linear motors, gantry systems are used in precision industrial automation and manufacturing as well as in 3D printing. Typical configurations cover X-Y motion and for additional versatility they often include a manipulator / gripper mounted on a vertical axis (X-Y-Z gantry system).
