Motion Control & Motor Association Posted 06/01/2011
(Ann Arbor, Michigan) The Motion Control Association (MCA) has released statistics for first quarter 2011 showing year over year growth for the fifth consecutive quarter.
MCA reports that orders in first quarter 2011 were up 29.0 percent year-over- year, while shipments grew 26.9 percent for the same period. Growth was evident across all product categories that the Motion Control Association monitors, including motion controllers, electronic and AC drives, motors, actuators and mechanical systems, sensors, other ancillary components, and support & services.
“These first quarter 2011 results demonstrate that growth in the motion control industry remains rock solid,” said Paul Kellett, Director of Market Analysis at MCA.
“Our members continue to see new business opportunities from a wide range of customers and industries, so we’re very optimistic about the outlook for the motion control market,” added Jeff Burnstein, MCA President.
MCA summarizes market results in both its quarterly tracking reports and trend analysis reports. These reports examine orders and shipments by major product category quarterly and annually with both tables and color graphics. Growth rates and book to bill ratios are provided for each product category. MCA also provides an economic indicator report, which enables report users to interpret quarterly statistics from the standpoint of macro-economic indicators by individual manufacturing industry, as identified by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
All reports are available free of charge to all MCA members. Members providing data for the reports receive “full” versions of the reports, which are highly detailed examinations of order and shipment results. Non-participating members receive “abridged” reports, which contain shipment results.
“Members find the reports valuable as gauges of overall market performance and as benchmarks for assessing relative company performance,” according to Kellett..
MCA represents over 60 motion control manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and consulting firms from throughout the world. In addition to providing members with quarterly statistics, MCA hosts the industry-leading Motion Control Online website (www.motioncontrolonline.org), sponsors an annual Business Conference (next event: January 18-20, 2012 in Orlando), and offers educational sessions on key motion control issues at leading events.
