Kollmorgen and KNAPP Systemintegration GmbH Deliver Forklift Automation Solution for Large European
Kollmorgen Posted 05/14/2010
Cost-effective solution installed within current warehouse infrastructure reduced operational costs through increased picking productivity
RADFORD, VA – Standard forklifts automated with the NDC Suite technology from Kollmorgen are at the heart of the Pick-n-Go® solution that KNAPP Systemintegration GmbH - a member of KNAPP group - has installed at Engrotuš d.d., a leading Slovenian supermarket retailer. The solution has significantly increased the overall efficiency of order picking processes at Engrotuš d.d., while streamlining other internal transportation needs and reducing overall operating costs.
“Engrotuš d.d. considered a fully automated picking solution, but it didn’t take long for them to conclude that it would have been prohibitively costly, while requiring significant changes to their current warehouse infrastructure,” says Tomas Angervall, Product Marketing Manager, Kollmorgen. “Instead, they went with the Pick-n-Go solution as a component of an overall logistics solution comprising of an OSR Shuttle-System and WMS implemented by KNAPP. The system was installed within the existing infrastructure of the distribution center, and at a significantly lower cost than a fully automated alternative.”
KNAPP automated forklifts with Kollmorgen NDC Suite technology are in use at the Engrotuš d.d. distribution center for fresh and chilled products. The automated forklifts are used to fetch empty roller cages, escort the RF-terminals-equipped picker to the required pick locations, and dispatch full roller cages. They are also used for pure transportation tasks such as picking up full roller cages from areas with goods-to-man picking (OSR Shuttle from KNAPP) and transporting them to the dispatch area. The automated forklifts operate safely within a mixed environment that includes pickers and manual forklifts, and ensure maximum staff availability for picking.
Kollmorgen, a leading manufacturer of driverless control technology, and KNAPP, a leading warehouse automation specialist, are strategic global partners in warehouse applications for automated order-picking and automated transportation based on the NDC Suite technology.
Pick-n-Go from Kollmorgen is a highly flexible order picking system that streamlines any order fulfillment process, with significantly reduced operating expenses. The Pick-n-Go system seamlessly integrates with existing Warehouse Management Systems and established processes, and is easily adapted to satisfy specific application needs. In many applications, the Pick-n-Go system will give improvements in order picking productivity of over 60% and pay for itself in just 12 – 24 months.
NDC Suite from Kollmorgen is a complete automated guided vehicle (AGV) control solution that promises lower total costs for system integrators and end-users. The heart of NDC Suite is the NDC8 – Kollmorgen’s applications-independent and scalable control module that works with all AGVs, from the small and simple to the big and complex. It is also easy to integrate with host systems and material handling systems, and because the same platform is used everywhere, the same engineering skill set applies for all types of applications.
